BOARD MEETING
MAY 14, 2007
The Pipestone Township Board met May 14, 2007 at the Township Hall at 8:00pm. The meeting was called to order with the Pledge of Allegiance
 
CALL TO ORDER
Board members present were Hazen Harner, Alan Nimtz, Richard Skibbe, Robert Bishop and Doug Davis. Also having eleven guests present.
 
MEMBERS PRESENT
 
A motion made by Bishop, supported by Skibbe to accept the minutes of the April 9, 2007 Board Meeting as received prior to the meeting. MOTION CARRIED.
 
MINUTES APPROVED
 
Skibbe, having deposits for the month of $28,014.14, filed treasurer’s report as read. Leaving a balance in the general fund of $101,246.72
 
TREASURER’S REPORT
 
Sheriff Paul Bailey presented a monthly Police Report for Pipestone Township. He discussed the report having forty written complaints, twenty-one tickets issued and two arrests in Pipestone Township. He also discussed the opening of the new casino in New Buffalo. New Buffalo contracted five more deputies from the Sheriff’s Department, paid by Revenue Sharing. He also discussed costs and statistics of State Prisons along with statistics of local jails.
 
POLICE REPORTS
 
Mr. Tom Stiles from the Fire Department presented the incident summery report for the month of April. He stated there were sixteen, eight in which were in Pipestone. He also stated they had training on burning down a house at Camp Rosenthal on M-140.
 
FIRE REPORT
 
Nimtz reviewed election results from the May 2nd School Election having 150 ballots cast
 
SCH ELECTION
 
Nimtz never received Franchise Amendment from Parish Comm. will get it for next meeting.
 
FRANCHISE AGR.
 
Motion made by Bishop, supported by Davis to Approve Glassman’s a 10% Buyers Premium for handling the sale of the Township Hall which should take care of most all the costs. MOTION CARRIED
 
TWP HALL AUCTION
 
Harner reported that Lynn Wittmann needs to have reappraisal of the properties within five years, twenty percent each year, in return will put more work for her. He will check into surrounding townships assessor salaries and report back next meeting.
 
ASSESSOR APPRAISALS
 
Jon Hinkleman reviewed some issues the County is dealing with, the officers being sent to New Buffalo, the County puts up the money but will be reimbursed by state shared revenue. Also about centralizing 911.
 
CO COMM
 
David Dent discussed some of the properties he is dealing with, the on going contact, pushing progress reports to be filled out by the violators.
 
ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
 
Nimtz presented a request from Susan Rogien on behalf of Grace Lutheran Church for the July4th cherry Festival from 2:00 to 4:00 the use the present classroom occupied by the Church. It is noted and was the consensus of the Board for the Church to use that room for the July 4th Cherry Festival.

Smoke alarms are required in all homes and are available through the Fire Department.
